whats personal allowance amount ?
Discussion
The current basic personal tax allowance (if you are under 65) is £5,435.
In September it should increase by another £600 (Alistair Darling's rather inept attempt to correct for the debacle of the abolition of the 10% Starting Rate tax band).

So, how will that look across the tax year? Will it end up being about £5700 in 2008/9 and 6000 in 2009/10?In September it should increase by another £600 (Alistair Darling's rather inept attempt to correct for the debacle of the abolition of the 10% Starting Rate tax band).

I thought it was already £6k. Must go back and recalculate the wages!
It's currently £5,435.
When it increases to £6,000, the £6,000 will apply from 6 April 2008 up to 5 April 2009, so those on PAYE will get an initial boost in their pay packet in the first month the new allowance level is applied - probably month ended 30 September 2008 (PAYE month ended 5 October 2008) and then things will settle down for the rest of the year.
