Hello All,

Anyone have any experience of fathoming out barcodes? Are there any consultants who can do it all for me?

I have GS-1 membership, etc, but it seems to take ages...I have retailers in the US desparate for the details...

Phil.

I have a product that needs a barcode (preferably that will work internationally). I just don't seem to have a logistics mindset...

I take it this is a brand new product thats hasn't previously had a barcode allocated? If it already has a barcode, it will be the usual EAN 8 or 13 digit which some places in North America will be fine with but they may require UPC A and UPC E, so I would ask them first. If they happy with EAN 8 or 13 then you don't need to do anything.

Does that make sense?

Back at PC now so easier to type. If you don't have any barcodes at the moment and you need help the only guys I can remember are these,

Decision Technology, East Molesey, Surrey

I worked with barcodes many years back so my knowledge may and is a little rusty:

We generate these when at final proof stage for product labels. Its just a peice of software and dead simple.

Thanks for the replies so far - yes it's a product that's brand new and I've had confromation that the 13 digit EAN is fine - I've spoken with GS-1 and sent off papaerwork, but am at a loss as to what happens now...I assume I'll get the numbers from which our packaging people can create a barcode, as alluded to by Broccers..

You are correct, Good news on them allowing EAN13. GS1 will now if they have not already send you a company prefix and away you go as Broccers said. Not as scary as you first thought!

Cracked it - it's easy when you know how, just all the surrounding information is confusing for a simple chap like me...
