Another "think out loud" post..

Those of you that have datacentre operations or colocation companies etc., how much requirement do you have for on-site support?

I guess there is a bit of a gap between remote-hands and having your own person onsite.. I'm wondering if is there room for a local company/contractor that can be onsite in, say, 30 mins and know enough about your network/equipment to fix stuff that breaks?

Would a smaller monthly retainer and a larger onsite fee be appropriate or larger retainer with no onsite fee etc.

Appreciate any insight.

There are several companies who offer this service already, and tbh with the way the market is going, it's something thats going to be needed less.

Those outfits who dont have staff onsite already, arent likely to have the financial power to last this market.

I dont know of any decent sized operations who dont have their own staff for onsite operations.

30 mins is also quite a long time in an 'emergency' type situation.

Where are you located? can you guartantee 30 mins in the event of traffic, or public transport failure etc?

Not really a market for this if you ask me; you are not really adding value to the bigger hosts. The smaller hosts are going to get consolidated over the next few years anyway. smile
