Does anyone have any experience, or advice, on the best way to record a phone conversation, for later sharing and playback via Windows audio file (.wav or somesuch).

We can't connect the phone to a PC - so would need to be done remotely - either via a voice recorder type thing, or via an external company, who records the call on your behalf.

The purpose is to record training conference calls to then share with the attendees, and most importantly, those who could not attend, for their reference.

I'm guessing there's 2 options .......

1: Add some box to the phone, with a USB plug, to download wav files to

2: Use someone like these guys: http://www.rectel.co.uk/

Anyone have any experience in one way or the other (or maybe another alternative)?

If you run the call through a Trixbox/Asterisk box you can do it there.

If you're recording a call however, all the parties need to know that the call is being recorded.

What PBX(phone system) have you got? There are lots of ways to do this but it isn't cheap to do it the pro way!

It would be for some of our home workers - so it would use their standard BT line - therefore a corporate/SMB solution is not applicable.

It would keep costs down dramatically, doing it this way, and then sharing the call with the relevant parties (plus those who missed it), via our Intranet.

It's got to cheap and simple and untechnically challenging to setup.

Thanks for the responses though. And Matt - yeah - fully aware that all parties need to know it's being recorded if it's going to be shared with them, plus others thumbup

I'm always one for the "budget" solution.

How about one of the party dials in on their mobile (hopefully using their "free" minutes) and records the call using this facility built into the phone (even better if there's a memory card in the phone to increase the record capacity) - most Nokia's can do this.

Then link this phone to a pc, copy the file over and share it around.

Total cost £0.00

Could you make the call using use Skype or some other VOIP service on the PC? You can get cheap or free plugins to record the calls.

I don't believe that's correct for the UK. There's lots of reasons you can record calls without all parties being aware that it is recorded.
