I have a personal HSBC current account (well I was a graduate and it was a graduate account, but I've kept the account, and I know this is a business forum), and een though I have changed the delivery method to online I keep getting a paper copy of my credit card?! Why!?

I also changed my address to a new address I have, and their help page says call us if you want copies to be delivered to a new address. Isn't this the functionality provided on their internet banking service (which obviously doesn't work)? Why should I call them to change my details when their internet banking service lets me do it? Alledgedly...

I'd get a link of the statement they make on the help page, but now I can't login - they allow like one login every 30 minutes!

Can anyone explain the above discrepencies?
Thanks

Well if they're not charging you extra I wouldn't worry about it. Burn it to keep warm and save your fuel bill.

Like one login? How much like a login is it - slightly, moderately or considerably? wink

My HSBC online banking allows me to log in as often as I want, are you sure you haven't got your log in details wrong and been locked out? They also keep sending me paper statements even though I went paperless years ago.

Did you ever ask them why?

And I mean one login attempt every 30 minutes, sorry! I always enter my details carefull off a piece of paper where I wrote my credentials. They ask for certain digits in a large number so I can't remember the details in my head.

Nope, never bothered to ask why. If you send me all your log in details and password I'll try and sort it for you.

LOL.

And I've set it to online only and changed my personal address, there's no other option. frown

It's annoying that I can only set the frequency when I say online and post. I've set it to online only, and even then, it pretty much is a case of recieving my statement(s) by online and post! mad

I've just signed up to a HSBC e-saver account out here in Dubai and did all the online thing and then got a lovely disclaimer saying that I have to provide copies of my passport, copy of my residence visas, passport photgraphs, a signed application form, and a salary certificate from my employer.

Lovely - the branches are all in places where you can't park and they only open during my working hours.

I've just applied and then given up. I'll just go back to my bank and leverage the same with none of the hassle - in fact, they came to me to sort out my credit cards, to my office when it was convenient to me.

The reason for a paper copy of the credit card statement is that it is required by law and you can't opt out. Bank's would dearly love to save money by using electronic not paper statements (though they dress it up as being green to convince people to help reduce the Bank's costs - which is a far less attractive pitch to a customer!).

Does anyone here know how to use a phone? I want to query something with my bank but don't know how to call them. Do you think it'd be ok if I went into one of their branches?

Well I guess that answers that!

One other question:

Charges summary and statement - what is the difference? Which one is credit card, and which is debit card? My charges summary is set to online only but I have another type of statement above that, with my chosen address. It doesn't say the type, just the address. I assume this statement type with my address listed is my credit card statement? As the credit card statement is compulsory, and the other statement (charges summary) set to online only is my debit card statement.

HSBC's help also says, in one help guide on internet banking, that I can change my address and this will take effect on my main address:

By selecting this option you can change your address online. Please note that this will change the main address we hold for you.

If you are a joint account holder, you can change the address for the joint account (unless you both need to sign on the account). However, the other party will need to arrange for any sole accounts held separately to be updated and confirm that the joint account is to be changed, if both to sign.

But then they say, on another help guide on internet banking:

Change my address
Please advise us of any changes of address. If you are a joint account holder, please ask the other party(ies) to also change their address(es), if they haven't already done so.

Does this mean advise us over the phone or in person of address changes, or have the courteousy (sp?) to tell us over the internet when your address changes?

Either not true, or Tesco are breaking the law. I opted out of my Tesco credit card paper statement over a year ago I think, never had one since.

My understanding is that the legal requirement is to send them out if there is an outstanding balance, also applies to overdrawn current accounts etc.

So pay yer debts!
