Hi all,
Just wanted to ask a quick question,
Can an employer dictate when you can/cannot take holiday?
I.E Policy dictates you cannot miss certain weeks due to conferences etc
Thanks
Chris
Yes they most certainly can. The conditions with respect to when you can and cannot take holiday and what procedures you must follow in order to book it, and what the cancellation policy is will be in your "Employee Handbook" (or similar) and will either be written into your contract or the document that describes holiday policy will be referenced in it.Just wanted to ask a quick question,

So go check what your firm requires of you.

Depends on your contract. More often than not you need to 'request' holiday - otherwise companies may not be able to trade if everyone takes holiday at the same time.
You also get factory shutdowns when everyone HAS to take two week's holiday all at the same time! TVR used to do that. Plenty of other factories do...Don said:
