Hi all.

I run a small IT Support operation (it's in the profile smile ) and I'm shortly going to be setting up an online store selling monitors, peripherals, cables, CPUs etc etc. All the usual stuff.

It's a whitebox offering from my existing distributor so it's quite handy, I can specify mark-up percentages and they handle all the catalogue back-end & order fulfilment.

I'm not expecting it to do silly amounts of trade but it fits well with my other services & of course, any extra trade is always welcome!

But my existing domain is quite long and although it does what it says on the tin, I want something that people could see on a roadside ad (for example) & be able to remember.

And that's where I need the inspiration.

<something> online?

<something> bytes?

PC <something>?

IT <something>?

A nonsense made-up word?

A completely off the wall real word (www.pinkfish.co.uk for example) Ha! Just checked and that actually exists. Bizarre)

Something location based?

So what would work for you if you saw it advertised? What would make you remember it?

might be worth trying pickydomains.com - get a load of people to do the hard work for you and money back if you don't like any of them?

And thanks for the pickydomains idea, not seen that before. I am however a complete skinflint! smile

If you want good SEO make sure the domain is full up of your most important keywords. My bet is though they have already gone! In which case tack on something unique to the end like CheapPC-123.com

Picking a long domain full of keywords is a poor poor idea, how many really successful Internet brands/companies do you know of with really long names? It should be a proper name, not a generic i.e. Google is a proper name, as is Amazon.

What is your budget for the domain name?

There are some decent one worder / brandable / memorable words out there for reasonable figures ie. £1000-5000 bracket. If it is a startup then leasing with or without option to buy could be a consideration.

Email me or drop me a PM (however it works!) for more info.

i like quirky ones with I.T companies.

The pain staking process of having a problem with your PC, then calling the support company named 'ol mighty I.T' for example

Agreed. I dont know of any either. I also don't know where my response I said that! I see nothing wrong with www.cheapit.com though.

I didn't realise they had a bottomless pit of money to spend on brand recognition. I wouldn't go this way if I were you OPer, but its your call!

Not much spare cash at all frown at the moment!

It's merely an add-on to my existing support business with some local advertising to start with, probably a small adwords campaign to see what comes in (although there's a 1000 & 1 mail order outfits to compete with so not getting into silly amounts unless the returns from the campaign are worth it).

I want something fairly easy to remember if someone sees it on a poster etc. But I'm not looking to buy premium names, I'll stick to my 'self-registered £5.90 for 2 years' ones.

It's a trade off between stuff that's good for SEO & doesn't get too complicated but you've all helped jog my mind into different avenues so that's no bad thing at all!

Cheers.
