Time limit on processing debit card transactions?

Anyone here know if there is a time limit for processing/presenting to a bank or cardhandler details of a debit card transaction?

For instance if a transaction takes place in May could it be processed and money taken today for instance?

Unless the cardholder is aware, that's just asking for a charge-back. Did you just find a post-it note down the back of the desk with someones credit card details on?!
