We own a b&b/guest house in Newmarket. We have 9 on-suite rooms and they operate on a door code system, so the place is not staffed. It's a case of ring up, pay by card then get ur codes and bobs ur sister.

Business is slow monday through thursdays with about 30% occupancy. We have a decent website, and we paid some random to get us on the first page of google, which hasnt actually happened.

Anyway, would it be worth sending leters including leaflets to all large companies in the area sort of thing in a bid to get thier business if they have people maybe passing through or something. I don;t know. We have leaflets but not business cards. Are they worth it? We're racking our brains to think of a way to pull in people travelling to the area to work maybe. any ideas?

Hi there im no expert but I would think have a talk with all the other hotels and guest houses within a 10 mile radius they may be able to push some work your way if they are full, maybe for a small kickback to them, in person would be better with your business card and details.

Suggest you can shown them around if they want to check its up to their standard,

I would certainly contact every business in the area, I know some of the bigger hotels used to invite all the room bookers at the companies ( usually secatary )for a theme evening at their hotel.

The base may need temp accomodation for the Mildenhall and Lakenheath base so would contact their housing officers, again the officer would come out and inspect the property.

Forgive me but are your prices pitched correctly, better to be lower on the slow nights and fill some rooms.

Market it around the airport its not so long to Stanstead from you, have on your website under hotels near stansted airport.

Find out the list of all the race nights and music nights at the course and try and do something around that, maybe the course website has links to local accomdation.

Do deals with local eating places that do or dont have accomodation,

Ah forgot about this post. Thanks for the replies.

We are with booking.com and get some good biusiness from them, althought they take a large commision. I have now compiled a list of 80 business's around the area and will send them all a leter and some leaflets. That was a good idea i think.

I also got a quote for £188 for 1000 business cards. Is this expensive?

I paid £175 to "www.infoserve.com" for keyword management. How do I know if they did a good job tho'?. Our website is www.ashleyhousenewmarket.co.uk

Business cards can be had a lot cheaper than that! Depends what quality you want though... If you just want simple colour cards to get your name and number around town, I have a printer that does our taxi cards - for £99.00 they'll do you 12,000 cards.

If you want to buy in bulk (what we do...), 100,000 cards is only £295.00

PM me if you want their details. They'll happily send out samples so you can check thickness/quality etc smile

Searching Google for "newmarket bed and breakfast" you are one up from the bottom of the first page of results. So I guess they did their job. Interestingly though, you don't have "bed and breakfast" in your META tags.
