Insurance + Liability
Discussion
Hope someone can shed some light. My firm are being contracted to provide some installation and presentation skills for an outdoor arts festival. Some of the kit is being hired from a firm who have their own insurance policies, other is coming from a firm who insist that we must insure the kit for the duration of the job.
My insurance firm, and every other who I have tried today cant offer short term insurance for the event for the equipment (high end projectors and computers). This is because (the main reason out of various others) the venue is a city centre, and hasn't got a lockable perimeter when the actual performances are taking place. The city council are providing 24hr security for the event, but I can't find out who is liable if the kit goes missing whilst they are supposed to be guarding it....
Can anyone offer me some insight? Is there a way I can ensure my insurance firm will cover me for the theft of the sub-hired equipment from an open site, or does all responsibility lie with the council and the appointed security firm?
Sorry for the long windedness - I am NOT trying to dodge paying the required insurance, but after having a lot of doors closed by insurance brokers I am trying to find out who is liable when security for an event has been provided.
