I am thinking about applying for a business grant from my region's development agency. Has anyone here had any experience with the process? Is it something, given enough time, I can do myself, or do you need an expensive consultant? I would be looking for probably a 6 figure sum, so not small, but not at the top end either. My region is East Anglia if that helps.

Any advice is much appreciated!

So likely that the grant comes via or from EEDA then!

Most grants are like applying for tenders. EEDA are pretty good and fair though but be prepared for a form-filling-fest. There's no need to employ consultants just take your time and review what you have written as though it was you giving the money.

In theory, they have targets to meet in terms of the money they hand out so are keen to do so but equally, you have to remember that they are a public body and care little about doing the right thing, just doing things the right way. The trick is to help them so keep answers simple and the to the point.

What's the grant for? We work with EEDA through the Eastern region office of UKTi so may be able to give you a more focused steer.
