Can anyone please recommend a professional 'executive' CV writing service to me? There are so many to choose from if Googled, and prices seem to vary from about £35 to £299.

I am looking for a little career change at the moment and I am starting the ball rolling with getting the CV into whatever is the currently preferred style. I don't want to take a gamble on using the wrong people though!

With thanks

It's a bit of a swizz, if you've got some mates in the HR/ recruitment business, get them to give it a once over for you.

You know your experience better than anyone who will relieve you of £35-300 for putting it onto a swanky template and sorting the grammar out for you.

They'll fill you full of sales bumph and figures on how many percentages it will increase your chances of getting a job but there's just as good advice out there on Google

The last CV I read that had been doctored by one of these people read like bull$hit bingo card. Full of fancy prose masking the candidate's real skills.

I agree. There is a big trap in this kind of business.

The Marketing company sells something to the company marketing manager that they want to see. Not what might actually work.

The CV company sells a type of CV to a jobseeker that the jobseeker wants to see. Not what might actually work.

Yes - I take onboard all of the above!

I posted my CV on "The Ladders" and their free feedback and critique on my CV was actually quite fair and good. The format mine is in is an envolution from another CV I had professionally written 15 years ago. I just want someone who will do a good job by asking me the right questions, and then producing something objectively. I am therefore looking for a specialist on this. Someone who knows their stuff, is bang upto date with styles, and can produce something with impact built from fact, not pixie dust!

Drop Chim Girl a mail - she deals with this sort of thing. Happy to say she revised mine (having discussed my job experience and aspirations) to ensure it was direct and avoided the BS. Feedback from recruitment agents / prospective employers has been very good. Well worth the money.

EDIT - to add a bit more background, I was made redundant recently. Part of my package included an "outreach" company who were supposed to write a professional CV with me. Net result? Zero. Within two days of using the CV fettled by Chim Girl, I had an interview.

There's a lot to be said for just letting friends have a look. People can be a bit precious about CVs despite having many friends who are well qualified to comment.

A friend (and fellow PHer) is an HR consultant, and he reviewed the "outreach" CV, my effort and the one fettled by CG. Although they essentially said the same thing, he noted that the CG one was the strongest of the lot.

Send it here TUS. Ill take a look, its nay bother. Writing a good, thorough CV for an experienced professional is by and large a relatively easy job. For some reason though quite a few folks think it isnt and therefore the wife and I seem to get CVs from everyone we know all seem to think we have magic fairly gold dust we sprinkle on CVs.
