Companies House Filing Question

If you were listed as a Director of a company as 'John Smith', is there any reason (for accounting trickery or some such) that you would go to the trouble of changing your details with Companies House to 'Mr John Smith', with no other changes?

Is it possible his details were completed differently on an Annual Return (for instance), and CH's system picked it up and changed their records?

I don't think so. There's been no change of address for years and the downloadable forms all show the same name/address throughout. It's just some random change of details to add 'Mr' in front of the name. And I can't think why he's done it.

As an aside, there's a suspicion he's not been declaring VAT properly, but I can't see how changing details in some subtle way could be part of any con.

My tax return last year was addressed to me using a middle name that I haven't used since I was in my early twenties.

I asked them to remove it again, and asked how it got there, and they explained that they'd recently updated their database, and combined two old ones, and it must have been picked up from the old database, against my NI number, and overwritten the 'current' info.

Maybe CH did something with their database(s)?

Is that the "reason" a change has been logged?

Many Annual Returns being filed this year are being listed as "changed" because, under trhe requirements of the new 2006 Companies Act, the directors' nationalties have to be entered on the form. If this wasn't entered before, it will be logged as a "change".
