I'm interested to find out what methods/incentives have people use to retain good staff? Have you gone as far as directorship?

If someone is vital to a growing business it's worth whatever it takes, really. We have gone as far as shares/directorship.

In my mind a director should be appointed as a "head" of a section, what if the position we were talking about was a sales rep?

Just pay them more then, it is after all the sole reason why most people turn up to work.

Well - sales guys expect comission. A sales guy working for less than he could get elsewhere may be hoping for shares? Is he worth a percentage of the business?

You don't have to be a Director to be a shareholder...

Why would the sales rep leave? What is he unhappy about?
