We have been using a trading name for part of our business for about 6 months. Most clients were paying by BACS but a couple have sent us cheques.

3 weeks ago I wrote to the bank to ask for an indemnity for the trading name. I was told this was a formality. They have now told me they cant offer an indemnity as a ltd company has been registered in our trading name.

There are thousands of companies and trading names out there that overlap so how do they get around it?

The bank in question arent exactly known for their business banking facilities.

Are you saying that you have the cheques made payable to zzz t/a xxx and they won't let you credit them to zzz's account?

Or are they simply payable to xxx?

Which bank is it?
