My wife is just starting a business and needs a local to us number ( 01608 code ) which will 75% of the time need to be diverted to a mobile number.
What is the best / cheapest way of doing this.
FWIW, we have 1.7Mbps broad band through ZEN with a fixed ip address. One BT line.

Your line provider should have some options however when people call and hear a few unusual sounds ie not a normal ringing pattern they are more likely to hang up.

A device exists that takes a sim card and when a land line incoming call happens the device will look for you with up to 3 numbers tried (using the sim card to dial out) whilst maintaining a common ring tone to the caller. If you had 2 sim cards (your wifes and the devices) on a free sim to sim deal than this could be your best option after the £350 initial device cost

Am I wrong or right in thinking 1.7Mbps is slow?

I'm always happy to recommend www.voipfone.co.uk for this kind of thing. They have quite a few local numbers available and offer quite a lot of redirection options.

With this, call forwarding to a mobile is 12p/m! I was hoping for a cheaper method.

That's actually already pretty cheap.

We pay a bit less (but don't use it), but not a whole lot. Mobile rates are relatively expensive wherever you go.

Call forwarding using the gizmo i mentioned is free if you have a sim to sim agreement - its a far better solution than a provider set up but 99% go for the provider option

Free calls to this device from the landline and vice versa. I've had this for a while now, works pretty well. Not sure if its the cheapest but remember if your customers can't hear you on a fuzzy crappy internet line or it takes 5 secs to hook up when they dial in then the saving isnt worth it imo.

Get a free 01 number, set up Fring on your mobile and deliver it for free on inbound.
