You lot on the match.com thread... Your thoughts please!
Discussion
Good afternoon chaps,
I know there are a fair few on here that are into internet dating, or have at least tried it.
Most seem frustrated with the whole experience and some feel cheated out of subscription fees (just to clarify, not necessarily match.com).
I'm toying with the idea of setting up a site, and I was hoping you guys would be kind enough to share your experiences with me.
Would you be more likely to keep an account active if it was a nominal amount each month, rather than £40 or £50 per month?
What irritates you about the current sites and what could they do better?
Have you tried the free sites such as plentyoffish, and how do you think they compare to paid sites?
Moddy woddys... I know this is probably a business thread, but if you could give it some air time in the lounge that would be great

I don't know if money is the issue. There are so many sites making a lot of money so money can't necessarily be the issue. That said... how about some sort of guarantee. If you don't get a date after 3 months of using the site, you get your money back. Not sure how you'd monitor this. I guess you could store emails even if they are deleted by the user. What irritates you about the current sites and what could they do better?
Personally, I preferred the Gumtree model. I was considering setting this up as a free for all (in both senses of the phrase). I'd be more ruthless with spammers as you can often tell spammers from genuine posters.

Any use of text speak or LOLZ either in your profile or messages and you're barred from the site.

I'm sick of all the retards emailing me, some kind of idiot filter would be good
They may well be filthy rich retards. So..
Maybe that's why I haven't been on many dates.... delete, delete, delete

What about a rating system on messages? Similar to 'I like this' on facebook?
So you get a spacktard send you a message, you click the thumbs down... We have a cut off level and if enough people are clicking 'thumbs down' we go and check their messages. If it's full of LOLZ or inappropriate or whatever we can bin the member?
Maybe we could have a big red button with 'spacker alert' printed on it!
Users would then get a visible credibility rating on their profile - ie; if they just send out a million messages asking for a shag, everyone can see that because they have 6% credibility or whatever...
