Hi all

I'm after a good quality cheap laptop for no more than £650. Should be a good all rounder with at least a DVD Rom / Cd writer combo.

Suggestions please ?

I've been looking for one (not cause I need one, but quite fancy browsing the web from the garden ) I've seen this one:

www.vizik.com/product_page_detail.asp?ProductID=20&ProductCatID=2&VendorID=11&Search=&dealtime

which is (just) within budget and seems to do everything you could want of a laptop. I'm usually a PC man but really like these latest Apple ones.

I believe the Toshiba A10 starts at around 650quid. I was looking for a budget lappy, but eventually pushed the boat out and spent 850quid on a Sony Vaio (2.8GHz, 512Mb memory, 128Mb graphics card, 40Gb drive).

Although we all hate PC World, they do sometimes have good laptop deals at around your price

Just been looking at a Dell for a bit over £650. Celeron 2.8 with 512meg. Looks OK

Don't forget that unless you are under a parasol with very tall draping sides you won't be able to see anything at all if the sun is out

as I recently found out

Not had that problem, well not in my garden anyway. Just make sure the you are sitting facing the sun with the brightness turned up a bit. A beer, some and enjoy, it's what I did the whole of last summer and beginning to do now.
Just make sure the missues doesn't drop a full glass of white Rioja on it 2 days before your holiday, and you never got round to finishing off all the little bits & pieces. Bloody waste, I love Rioja!

Currently run a Dell 600. DVD-R/CD-RW. 40gig. Goes quite well and seems well built.

Built in WiFi if you want it.

That looks OK. How does anyone think it compares to the Dell.

BTW, it's always worth keeping an eye on what Morgan Computers are selling;

I've bought loads of stuff from them and been reasonably happy so far.
