Our server seems to be blocking itself up...

It generally runs 24/7, but lately it seems to be having a bit of a problem. When booted up, the MEM useage is around 250MB with no applications running, but now, 3 days after a re-boot, again with no apps running its saying MEM useage is 680MB and it is running a lot slower.

I've looked through the processes and MEM useage shold be around 125MB.

Any comments/thoughts?

Oops - sorry

Running Windows Server 2000. No applications running as such, just background processes. Nothing sticks out immediately as not being required (cept winproxy has 32MB of MEM)

Hmm,

could be the proxy is using more cache as it goes on, or simply that someone is exploiting it, causing it to resource stave the machine.

What does Task Manager show (ensure you have show all processes ticked, and check the Memory / Peak Memory / Virtual Memory tabs are selected in 'Columns')

600mb is alot to be using, but it depends on how many people you are serving, and what load the server is under.

echo what Jamie says - task manager doesn't show virtual memory usage by default... enable that column and the culprit will be revealed!
