Never again. The missus' laptop was running just fine connecting via dial-up.

Me "you dont want to use that slow old connection"
Mrs Edt "but it's fine"
Me "no no no let me install this Wireless USB adapter so you can share broadband with me"
Mrs Edt "well if you're sure"
Me "leave this to me...."

Install went OK, found router, good healthy signal, browsing fine.

Now, she works in Devon 3-4 days most weeks.. laptop most useful when she's tucked down there, but there's no broadband available where she rents. In setting this up, it's screwed the dial-up connection.. kind of. It connects OK but refuses to send out or recieve more than a handful of bytes. I since uninstalled Linksys app, removed new network component for it, umm.. rebooted few times etc etc. But still it just sits there, connected @ 45bps, doing bugger all. Dont suppose any bright ideas? Rather ruined my evening..

You should be able to configure 2 hardware profiles and let her choose the correct one when she logs in.

I'll let the real techies tell you how

it'll be internet explorer settings I'm guessing. Goto tools, options, connections and make sure they are all normal in there.

I must say you are not alone, when I put broadband in mine went screwy as well

..so friggin' annoying.. the broadband stuff went quite well. the linkysy config app a little form over function (the 3com one nicer.. basic & easy) but neverthless 30 mins later browsing with speed! It's trying to sort the setup back to how it was that's been the pain. Looked at all the options, account settings etc etc I know exist (or understand at least) without joy. Going to be a fun wrestling match this one I rekcon ! Tried an quick win98se re-install but no help (didnt reformat drive.. just an ott install)

Ho bl**dy hum

Hmmmm.... Now this is a total guess I must say...

Maybe the Linksys App replaced a component of windows networking which is now causing a problem for the modem. Removing the app may not have resolved this, nor might re-installing windows.

Try finding out what the modem is and then re-install the drivers for that.

Hope this helps!
