Can't receive one email, its blocking the whole process on OE. There are 60 + emails behind it of some importance that I cannot get to. Is there anything I can do from my pc to clear the one thats causing the problem or do I need to contact my host? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Andrew

Depending on who your ISP is, you may be able to access your mail via the web (using Internet Explorer).... find the mail that is giving problems, and delete it.

If you go to your ISP's homepage, they will more than likely have a link to "Webmail" or something similar.

Another way is to use Telnet (start/run/telnet) - but it's a bugger to use and I can't remember exactly how!

Or how about getting Mailwasher 2.0 (free) - this checks mails on the server and lets you delete them.

Same problem on my email too!
Started yesterday about this time, when there were only 2 emails coming into inbox, the 1st of which was causing the problem.
Sitting here today with 39 trying to come in, and the first is still clogging it all up

There are malformed emails doing the rounds that are less than 1K in size and which have the effect of locking up Outlook.

The only solution is to remove them. If you have web access to your account then that's the route to take otherwise you need to talk to your ISP or download 'em using a different email client.

Mailwasher allows you to delete offending emails on the server and even automatically blacklist and bounce spam.

telnet to the mail server on the pop3 port (110), login (using USER & PASS), find (using RETR) and delete (using DELE) the offending message.

So, telnet my.mailserver.com 110

+OK My mail server version blah de blah ready.
USER myusernamesameasitisinOutlook
+OK
PASS mypassword
+OK, you have 3 messages (x octets)
LIST
1 x octets
2 x octets
3 x octets
RETR 3
From: somespamminggit@somewhere.com

Hey, do you need Viagra?
DELE 3
+Message deleted
QUIT
+Bye

BIG THANK YOU to Paul

Did the telnet thing you suggested and cleared out 2 emails from the mailbox that were the offending items.

At the very least I owe you a , check my car on my profile, and if you ever see it about, look for the driver - a drink will be in your hand pronto.

Many thanks

for future reference on the telnet thing. RETR returns the whole message which can be a pain if its big.

use TOP (mesgno) (number of lines)
this will show you the top x lines of the message. adjust the number to give you the full header and subject then dele the sucker.

Just foound this as I was having problems with Outlook 2003 and jammed up e-mail on one of my accounts.... Set the appropriate account to download message headers only (Tools>Options>Send Receive Settings>(select account)Edit>(Select account)(Check the <Download Headers Only> box.

This works so well, I've left the settings as they are for this account (as it is subject to spam spam and more spam) and only mark those messages I need to download and delete the others. Outlook does the rest !
