Can I stop this?
Discussion
Twice now I've had spam e-mails with *my* address as the sender. Bit of a shock, I can tell you.
I mailed my ISP and asked them if they could stop this: they said no, it was just one of those e-mail things.
I sent the message source info to an IT friend and he traced it back to Webfusion in Nottingham. However, they say that it's nothing to do with them and just one of those e-mail things.
So HTF can some monkey blag my e-mail address, and can I do anything about it?

The short answer is yes, anyone can do that.
The SMTP protocol was not designed to be secure. As such, anyone can sent a message to anyone, from anyone.
You can sign emails to prove they came from you, but cannot prevent anyone from sending a (unsigned) message from you.
Darren.
If you do have the senders IP / Hostname / Machine name (from windows boxes)
then you could and should report them to the ISP in questions' abuse Department. Also, try SpamCop.com, you could end up getting the
IP blacklisted from spamming.
9/10 tho its just someone running an insecure server on the internet, but ignorance is NO EXCUSE, if they cant secure it, they should get their Host/ISP/A Contractor to secure it!
