I've noticed more and more sites going down recently, and generally a slowing down. Is there some new bug around at the moment?

I noticed the whole eBay site was offline for an hour today. That must have been a big one.

My webhost seems to have been offline for the entire weekend, and various things are taking ages to resolve an address.

There are ALOT of second and third rate, cheaper than viable, held together by a showstring operations out there ar present.

Most look glorious on the surface, remarkably cheap compared to the 'more established',

its only when you sign up, and find they go down once a week, and for a few hours a time, then you realise just WHY they 'seemed so cheap'

If you dont need reliability, buy cheap.

If downtime isnt in your dictionary, smile and enjoy.

If, however, you NEED your Web host to host your Web, suck it up, and pay the price.

Thats what we all do :|

Yes, good advertising opportunity .
The host is www.fasthosts.co.uk so not some tinpot operation, but i'm getting a bit cheesed off with the recent dodgy service and over enthusiastic abuse department.

aah fasthosts.

www.dedicatedservers.co.uk/

excellent

Just bought out by Pipex. As such, undergoing changes, managerial and Technical.

Maybe this is how they will continue

and whilst no tinpot, certainly no Solid Leader either.

Heh

could not agree more Jamie, the useless ones are falling over, especially the really cheap guys, I have noticed much more competing on price in that market and the margin still has to come from somewhere, usually in not delivering anything like service. Proper hosting costs money, Networks cost fortunes and connectivity over something other than string is alays going to cost too.

As with any business, you pays your money etc... if you pays no money, it won't work all the time. simple.
