Um, personally I completely disagree with people downloading music, if you goto www.play.com you can get your music, legally, for ~£8, similary places like Music Zone always have a sale on and you can pick up slightly older albums for ~£5.

Having said that, if you're wanting to get a specific track or look into an album try soulseek (www.slsk.org IIRC) or Kazaa Lite (pants).

Soulseek is by far and away the best source, but its tricky getting hold of the installer.

Google for it, but dont follow the obvious links, look for entries in message boards and the like.

Its free, of course...

If you want some semblance of legitamacy have a look at www.allofmp3.com

IMO I tend to buy most of what I download if I like it, so 'free' music (least to me) actualy helps the music industry, and I HATE being treated like some lowlife thiefe scum when I buy an album (Copy protected CD's) - so I dont buy those CD's and send them back to play if not labeled as such on the web.

As for illigal music, kazaa light is the prefered kazaa, but edonkey/emule and bittorent (and newsgroups) are where its at atm.

Download it from the net to make sure you like it (if you can't be *rsed to go to a record shop) and then go and buy your music you cheapskate.

Good advice in this thread. I just got soulseek a few days ago after seeing it here, and Ive already dled 2 gigs of stuff in 4 days.
