Despite attempts to re-install, and having re-booted (although I have resisted temptation to boot it as far as the canal - so far) several times, I'm not getting IE to launch (either from the shortcuts or the program files).

Must admit I've been merrily cleaning up a few programmes (using Norton Cleansweep), a few files and whatnot......

.....but Norton has encountered any problems, viruses or other such nonsense when I've run it.

Seems puzzling that I'm not getting anything even after trying to re-install - perhaps I should remove it completely and re-install....

Any bright ideas?

Would be useful if I'd mentioned that !!!

Good ol' 98SE

Might be steam powered but it doesn't get the SASSER worm (unlike my "new" work laptop!!!)

Is it V6 of IE?

Do you see the properties on right click?

Problem is that IE is deeply integrated into 98SE and its difficult to remove completely and then reinstall.

Found this, its a bit lengthy but has some tips...

Ah-ha

Well, I've managed to re-install 5.5 and, after a bit of a struggle, normal(ish) service is returned.

Getting a few BSODs though - I wonder if I've got a hardware problem or just a bit of a conflict somewhere along the line...

Good point - thinking laterally I turned to Windows Explorer and am able to open a browser pane there........

That's just weird, cos windows explorer just uses the IE engine when you use it to view a website, so it's the same thing!
