Hi Folks.
Time for a new phone and after speaking to 'the youth' down at the O2 shop, I carnt decide between the HTC Sensation or Samsung Galaxy 'S'?

I dont tend to swop phones very often ( I have a Iphone 3G which is over three years old) so it must be future proof to some extent.

I dont want another Iphone as i feel like a change,so I have ruled that out.

So what is your thought folks? or is there a 'next big thing' just around the corner??

Thanks for your help and comments.

Why bother with a mobile? You can see the time on your watch.

Being one of the "youth" of which you speak myself, I'd clarify whether it was the Galaxy "S" or Galaxy "S2" before coming to a decision.

From experience with customers and their HTC Sensations, the response hasn't been as good as that of the Galaxy "S2" which should be in a similar price per month bracket as the HTC Sensation. Overall, both the phones are very similar with the exception of the camera and screen (as well as obvious asthetic differences) which are better on the S2. I personally prefer the "overlay" of HTC's TouchSense UI but that'd be a personal thing and I can't stress the importance of playing with the phones yourself before making a decision.

In regards to not changing mobile phones often, I wouldn't worry too much about the "future proofness" of the phones as both have the necessary hardware to handle future updates (hopefully anyway!)and therefore should last the length of the contract.
P.s. www.o2.co.uk/comingsoon has a list of upcoming phones on o2 with the exception of iPhone as that's not yet announced.

I hope that wasn't too long winded and feel free to ask anymore questions!

Having managed to ditch the company HTC Desire for an iPhone, I'd never go back to Android, the iPhone is simply in a different league as far as usability is concerned. Android is one of those products which looks good on paper and will probably be good in a few years but is trumped in so many ways by iPhone.

Thanks for your comments DizzyN. I was not being disrespectful over the 'youth' comment, Its a long time ago for me!

I am leaning towards the HTC Sensation instead of the Galaxy S11, I like the feel
of the HTC and find the Samsung a little on the large side, although stangely when the two are together there is not much in size difference.

I presume the camera and screen quality are much the same, I was interested as to
which will be the easier to use as I have not had use of a Android phone before.

I did think about the HTC Evo 3D phone, but apart from one review comments about poor battery life, I think the 3D thing could be a gimick?

As usual comments and thoughts welcome.
Thanks.

Did you have a play with both of them?. They have similar hardware its if you prefer HTC Sence or Samsung's TouchWiz.
I would go for Galaxy S 2 but then I am biased but dont think the screen size as a bad thing you will soon get used to it and it will be hard to go back smaller!!

The Galaxy S 2 is the one to go for right now. Better battery life, better performance, better camera and more memory storage for apps compared to the sensation.

Just ordered my S2! Very excited.

Took the insurance, for the first time in many years. Dropped my HTC Desire down a storm drain back in May, so I figured £6.99 a month for worldwide loss / theft / damage was probably worthwhile.

My OH has the S2, I have a Sensation - for me HTC Sense puts the Sensation way ahead of the Samsung but all you can do is try both and decide what suits you best.

Sensation for me too.

My Mrs has an IP4 and they are excellent. But, once you get the hand of Android (peice of pee really) there is nowt in it. My phone definately seems to take better pictures/videos and has a bigger, brighter screen. The way it handles bluetooth and sorting all your contacts makes switching phones a breeze too.

There's nowt in it though really, just whatever tickles your fancy.

They all have shheeit battery life, if you use them.

No problem, no offence was taken, I quite understand the thoughts of people towards us! smile

I really would advise the S2 over the HTC, we've had quite a few issues with Sensations ranging from software issues to touchscreen issues whereas the S2 has performed alot better (although the back of the phone heating up with constant use and when in charge is a common "fault" told to us by customers).

The screens and cameras are not at all similar, if you read independent review magazines, pretty much all state that HTC have never really concentrated on the camera's on their phones and the screen on the S2 is miles better. In reqards to "size", this is where personal preference really comes into play as you're the one that's going to be using the phone constantly, even I found the S2's slim body made it feel as if the phone would snap in half in my pocket at some point!

Alot of people's views is that they prefer the ease of "look" of the S2 in terms of that it looks easier to use. To a certain extent I agree but I still believe that all new smartphones are customisable and therefore will suit each individual to their needs. Therefore essentialy making the phone "your own".

Bear in mind too, that all high end smartphones tend to average around a days battery life with medium usage. I'd go into smartphoner ownership with the thought that it may well be possible that your phone wil not last the day (again, depending on usage).

I've not too much advice about the 3D phones due to my company not actually selling them, I've only played with the LG variant through a LG rep before and although nice, I personally found the phone quite gimmicky.
Again, hope that helps and any other queuries, feel free to ask away! smile

That's funny, Whenever I use iOS it just ends up getting me pissed off and I go back to my HTC desire. What kind of muppet thought it would be a good idea to need to sync with itunes to get documents into Pages when I don't see any reason why a smartphone should need to connect to a computer with a wire ever...

The Sensation takes a lovely picture and the screen looks great too. Video is also vivid and sharp as you like.

I've had a play with a mates S2 and it too has a great screen.

There's naff all in it...

Got to admint though that I did have to exchange my original Sensation as it just wouldn't find a signal and was draining the batt in a few hours. This was solved with a vodafone suresignal box and a new handset.
The one I've got now does get a little warm when you've got wifi on and using the browser but not alarmingly so.

I also think the 3D thing is nowt but a gimmick at the moment.
