Why does my motherboard seem to have a peculiar shaped Graphics card AGP slot? Do they come in different formats?

Dont have any of the details at work with me but anyone any general suggestions.

The voltages changed in one of the AGP revisions, so they changed the socket shape to prevent frying cards.

... although some boards have an AMR (Audio Modem Riser) slot instead of an AGP slot. Usually brown and about half the length of an AGP slot.

Hmm... sounds like a possibility. Must check out to see if I can get more details out of the manual. it is definately an AGP socket though so there must be something to fit in it.

A mate gave me a card which was redundant to him but it didnt fit. Right length but the slots in the wrong place if that makes sense.

Sounds a bout right. I am guessing new motherboard (at least AGP x4) and older card (less than AGP x4)
