Time to upgrade (a few years late then, OK? ).

I've got a choice to make.

XP Home, professional or Media centre edition.

Is there anything to avoid? Any advantage to having Media centre?

PC is mainly used for browsing the interwebnet, a load of music files and the odd video.

Home really, unless you watch films, record television and listen to music all on the PC...

If you are networked the Pro is better.

Home should do the job though...

home is pretty bad, and pro fixes 90% of all the progamming f&*k ups. go for that as it is MUCH more stable.

Go for XP I use for both home and at work, gets a good hammering at work whilst I'm programming and can honestly say that it runs smoothly.

Service Pack 2 should be out shortly which is set to make big changes and improve it greatly.

Identical, bar some process servers.

Home IS Pro with some bits taken out of it, the code base is identical.

...but make an average XP machine run like a sack of shit.

Thats my impression from the RC1 version I have.

Having problems.

Unable to copy a file during setup, will have to go back to the official licenced Microsoft outlet from where I "purchased" it........
