I need to open an ".exe" file on a Mac. Which application do I need? Any link to download it free? Thanks

Roadrunner, what Dontlift is trying to say is that an .exe file is an Executable (application) file and not a data file like a Word document. Therefore it will not run on a Mac. You need either:

a) A PC emulator
b) A PC (pictured above)

As I am sure you are aware, with one exception (see below) Mac's can't run .exe files natively since .exe is a format designed to run on dos/windows/x86 platforms. You can install Virtual PC on to your Mac which will enable you to run all sorts of PC type files including .exe. More info here: www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.aspx?pid=virtualpc

The exception I mentioned is this. A lot of the .exe files doing the rounds are in fact just self extracting zip files rather than true executables. If this is the situation in your case, try dropping the file on Stuffit Expander and see if it decompresses it for you.

What I forgot to metion above, is that if you go down the Virtual PC route, then you also need a copy of windows to install once you have virtual PC running!!

Yeah, but as it always goes, I won't have to replace my desktop for awhile, nowhere near as much as a PC, and don't forget about your virus scares as well as spyware and such, usually, programs aren't translated to mac because they aren't good enough or other reasons. Dell is alright, i guess, but you'd have to break my leg before thinking of going back to PC
