Metronet problems
Discussion
Is anyone else having a problem with Metronet ADSL or is it just me? The service has progressively deteriorated over the past two weeks: they did say that they were having new 'pipes' fitted. I can now connect but no data flows. Zilch. I shall try another modem tomorrow just in case it's that.

Works fine for me. They do recommend disconnecting for at least 45 minutes to make sure that when you reconnect it uses the new pipe.
What errors, exactly, are you getting?
To start with it became increasingly difficult to connect, to the point when I could only get a line in the morning. Then it started disconnecting me after 30-60 secs. Now I can connect OK at all times, but no data flows. An IT friend of mine talked me through the ping tests etc and there was no reply. We switched the modem off and then on again, then we got the ping responses but only for 3-60 secs. He suspected the modem is losing the IP address.
Tne modem is a Dabs value ADSL USM modem; if the other modem works OK tomorrow I guess I'll have to tell Dabs as its only 9 months old.
Can you think of any other things to check?
Thanks Pigeon.
Depending on your modem, you can probably log into the modem using a browser and get (among other things) a status page that tells you the status of the ADSL link. Comparing the results from this between working and non-working situations might give some clue.
Presumably your ping tests included pinging a numerical IP address (eg. ping 195.40.1.36)? I've noticed occasionally that Metronet's DNS servers have not been responding to DNS queries so I've only been able to access sites by numerical IP for a few minutes. The actual connection has been fine throughout.
Since the physical side of the ADSL link is provided by BT you might be able to get BT to tell you if there have been any problems relating to ADSL with your local exchange.
Daft question perhaps but have Metronet support been any help?

Although my connection is through a Netgear hub that's never disconnected.
