Quick Launch on toolbar problem
Discussion
Can anyone help me with the following please?
I recently found some spyware on my PC and used various bits of anti-ad software to remove it. Problem is, I have noticed that Quick Launch does not automatically load at windows start up any more. I can right click on the toolbar and switch it back on....but when I reboot, its turned off again!
It seems that this problem is not unheard of, and there is a USA website selling some snippet of software for £5 to put it back. It can't be that difficult, and before I spend a fiver, thought I'd throw it open to the PH collective computer talent for ideas first.
Hope you can help (bl@@dy Spyware!!!!),
Bryan

Assuming you are running XP.
Could need registry mod which should only be tried if you are confident.
[HKEY LOCAL MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindows
NTCurrentVersionWinlogon]
In the right-pane, locate the value named "Userinit" and note down the
value data (should be C:WindowsSystem32userinit.exe, the correct
value)
If you see any other value there, change the
value data to:
C:WindowsSystem32userinit.exe,
(Assuming Windows is installed in C: drive)

Richard,
You are the Windows and Google GOD!
Just checked out the registry, and the value had been overwritten as you discovered. Made the changes, and hey Presto! all fixed.
Now, why couldn't I find that answer when I looked on the net.
It was the same site that was offering me a download patch for $5 for the fix!
Many thanks, you are a star!
