Putting up an ad with pictures used to be so easy....now its all changed.

I have pictures of the car that I want to sell but at 2mb they are now too big for the new order adverts.

I've managed to get them onto Flickr....how do I upload them from there to a private ad....alternatively how do I take smaller size pictures.??

Thanks for your help.

You can download and use 'Image Optimizer' on your PC or change the image quality on your camera....

Open the pictures in Paint, use the re-size tool to reduce the size, try 30%.

Upload them again to flickr (with a different file names).

flickr should give you links to your pictures, add those links to your ad.

Remember it goes like this: [img] YOUR LINK [/img]

Hmmmm, just being having a play with flikr and I can't get the links to work (after I searched around for them), not very intuitive, I would try Photobucket, much easier.

Well flikr's direct link to my picture (under 'share' menu) just opens up the whole flikr page rather than just the picture.

If I look at their link to the HTML code I find this:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50884696@N08/4674579871/" title="bhgull2 by waspiness, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4070/4674579871_3d2e6c7d7c.jpg" width="500" height="448" alt="bhgull2"></a>

If I cut this peice out of the code and put it in [img] [/img] it works:

htp://farm5.staticflickr.com/4070/4674579871_3d2e6c7d7c.jpg (I have removed a 't' from http so this line does not appear as a link)

OK, I've just gone through the process of adding a dummy ad in Classifieds.

There is no need to use Flikr, you can add the pictures directly from your own computer.

The pictures must be no bigger than 500kb.

So all you need to do is make the pictures smaller.

This is easily done in Microsoft Paint.

Here's how:

Find your picture and right click it.

Choose OPEN WITH, then choose PAINT.

When the picture opens, click on RESIZE

Choose 30% for both horizontal and vertical.

Save the picture under a different filename.

It should now upload to Classifieds.

If it is still too big, try reducing the size further.

Easy to download from Flickr

Click on the pic you want.

Screen borders go black (slideshow type mode starts)

Click on the magnifying glass between the arrows in the right hand corner of the screen

You can then download the appropriate size version of your pic.

Hope that helps

The OP did not ask how to download from Flikr, he asked how to use Flikr as an image host for his classified ad.

I have no magnifying glass on my screen, I do have an option to choose a size but this just takes me to a download screen.

I have to say I'm not impressed with Flikr, they don't provide a direct link to your pictures for adding them to a forum etc.

Yes they do, in fact they make it easier by including HTML & BBCode if you want that, just click where it says 'share'.

OK, tried that, if i try and use their direct link I get a red cross:

If I use their HTML code I get this:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50884696@N08/4674579871/" title="bhgull2 by waspiness, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4070/4674579871_3d2e6c7d7c.jpg" width="500" height="448" alt="bhgull2"></a>

If I chop this bit out of the HTML code and stick it in IMG tags, I can post the picture:

htp://farm5.staticflickr.com/4070/4674579871_3d2e6c7d7c.jpg (removed a 't' from http so this line does not become a hyperlink)

Flickr don't want people to directly link to images, they want a click to go through to them (Flickr doesn't count views that are inlined, you have to go to the page for it to register). PH doesn't use standard BBCode and won't parse literal HTML for obvious reasons.

Where is the HTML code and photo file link?

The HTML code to embed a photo in a web page that you used to find on the All Sizes page is now only in the Share menu above the photo, to the right of the Actions menu. We now also include BBCode! (standard message board code)

There are a few cases where the code may not be available: 1) If the photo is restricted. 2) If that person has turned off "Share this" or access to original files.

The direct link to a photo file is no longer shown on the page. Per the Flickr Community Guidelines "pages on other websites that display content hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo or video back to its page on Flickr." Linking directly to the photo file doesn't do this.

As hosted on my Flickr stream...

It's not that bad really wink

Maybe you are using XP?

In that case, when you have your picture open in Paint, click on IMAGE (at the top of the screen)

Click on STRETCH/SKEW then in the STRETCH part, change the Horizontal and Vertical to 25%.

Click OK then save your file with a new filename.
