Monitors, how do you make the image lighter?
Discussion
Sounds daft I know, but my brightness, contrast etc are all at max, but when trying to view "maninginger's" porsche video, and any others for that matter the image is incredibly dark.
Sorry for being a bit dense, but is there any way of rectifying this or is my moniter turning belly up?
Help gratefully appreciated as my son 'needs' to see the porsche vid...

It does sound a bit like your monitor may be on it's last legs....
Have a look at this site
The background of this site is black, with a faint white checked pattern on it. On my monitor (Not particularly old 21" CRT) the check pattern is visible, with contast & brightness at about 60%
Whip the case off and tweak up the adjuster on the coil, it should have 2 or 3 adjusters on it, the bottom one increases the voltage which brightens the screen, set the brightness on the normal controls to half way and reduce the screen size so you can see some black before you start adjusting, then go round the back and set the brightness until the black just starts to go grey, make sure you leave everything to warm up properly just incase the tube settings wander the other adjuster/s ar for focus so if it's not that sharp you can fix that as well.
