Mysteriously my IE wont allow me to do what I have done in the past namely
1 View source code on websites
2 When saving a pic it does not give me options such as jpeg tiff etc it only allows bitmap

I have tried looking for clues in the settings to no avail so maybe some kind soul can point me in the right direction please
Cheers
Steve

usually a sign that you have too much content cached - go to tools - Internet Options - Delete Files that should help.

I thought it depended on what format the picture was in on the page - i.e. if it was a jpeg, you'd get the choice of jpg or bmp, but if it was already a bitmap then bmp is the only option?

Would you agree that allowing IE to manage the size of it's cache is a bad idea?

We tend to set caching down to about 10 or 15Mb

Possibly your default HTML editor has changed.

Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs

HTML Editor probably needs to say Notepad.

It is possible to lock out this function using Javascript (IIRC) within the web page itself. Sometimes you get a pop-up box saying "no code stealing" or suchlike. It's done to prevent people (like me ) from nicking code. Poor show! How do they expect me to add decent stuff to my site??

I concur with pdV6 on this one - IE doesn't have any image conversion functions as far as I know, which would be necessary to allow you to save a JPG as, say, a GIF instead. It should only allow you to save the graphic in its original format.

...or a bitmap, as effectively that's what Windows has had to display it as.

All true, until IE uses up its cache as mentioned. Then it only allows you to save as a bitmap until you clear it down.

Why? Who knows...

Blimey. That's mad - a bitmap is going to take up more space than the equivalent jpeg. Good old Windoze
