I have just started having a problem with Word. Every time I open a new document the following comes up:

When I click OK everything works as it should. When I go to close the document it comes up again, click OK and then it closes as normal.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office hoping it would go back to “normal” but it made no difference. I know nothing about macros and don’t really wish to other than to never see this come up again.
Any suggestions please?

Depends on which version of word you have - but try Tools-Macros and select the enable macros bit.

You have probably opened a file that has macros and you need to let word know you will accept files with macros.

I have Office XP, but it even happens when you open or close a new document?

In Word go to Tools --> Macros --> Security

Set to Medium - you should now be prompted if you want to allow macros or not.

Nice one, had to set it to "Low" for it to go away like before, on "Med" it asks you to click on enable or disable every time - equally irritating.
Not that it matters too much but why would it have changed, I certainly have not touched anything in Macros?

Isn't disabling macros an anti-virus measure?

Most likely a security update has switched your security setting to high as a preventative measure.

If you're getting a macro message even when opening a new blank document, then I'd guess the macros are attached to your normal.dot template.

If they really need to be there, then consider getting them signed so as to pass Word's security checks. Otherwise, edit the normal.dot template to get rid.
