Ok, now I am completely stuck. Just got a replacement laptop from work and really pleased with it so far. But the only problem is that the standby / resume / hibernate feature doesnt work! Seems to go into standby / hibernate, but just doesnt come back!!!

Its a Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook S series and is based on the Centrino chipset. Nothing daft and strange on it and there are no other issues, just put it into standby and then try to get it back and you get a blank screen. It seems that it makes the attempts to come back, but nothing other than a blank screen.

Its Windows 2000 with a full set of patches so there shouldnt be any updates that I am missing.

Any ideas? Seen this problem before? I am stuck....

Edited to add : Windows 2000 SP4 build 2195

I've looked in the Control Panel - Power Options and set the various parts in there. But doesnt seem to make any difference to how it works or not. Also checked the BIOS and there are no settings for standby or anything there..... stumped...

Do you have enough free disk space?

around 50GB disk space left....

But I did manage to crack it though - seems that a BIOS update is what is needed! Seems that the on-line application that Fujitsu Siemens have does read the BIOS version, but doesnt register that 1.25 needs updating to 1.26...!! Arse...

Anyway, a hidden update file for 1.26 called ACPI seemed to fix it. Should have guessed with a filename called ACPI, but still you live and learn. They could at least sort out the patch and tell people about it!!! Why do computer companies do this?

Had a problem with Microsoft Exchange recently and resorted to buying support from Microsoft. Anyway, got someone who knew exactly what the problem was and they emailed the solution with a step-by-step process to carry out. Turns out its a known problem with a simple resolution..... so why dont they supply it on their website and update for Exchange? Mmmm, couldnt be forcing people to buy support by any chance?
