Ad-hoc laptops
Discussion
Set up is
2 laptops with wi-fi cards
1 wireless broadband modem router
So both use the internet at the same time no props
Trying to get both laptops to connect with each other to exchange files. Ad-hoc should be the answer
Other than tick the ad-hoc setting in the bottom of the wireless connection box, what else should I be doing? Disconnect router?, etc…..

all you should need to do is share a folder on each laptops disks. you should then be able to see the shares available on the network.
worked fine with belkin and lynksys gear

So I DON'T turn the router off. In other words, each laptop is not communicating directly from wifi card to wifi card?
Jay-Aim said:Exactly. The router should include an Access Point which works like a hub in a wired network. Ad-hoc is used when there isn't an AP to co-ordinate the WLAN.
