tablet pcs

anyone use them?

do you know where in the south east i can go into a shop and see them as pc world dont have them? looking at either the toshiba or acer for a school as we need at least 12" screens. anyone used these are they any good? any major disadvatages over laptops etc?

any comments appreciated

Unless you have an absolute definite use for a tablet then that'y an expensive waste of time. Most people get them as a laptop replacment, and unless you really need to write on it, and take it around, you're better off with a proper laptop.

Disadvantages, based on the horrible HP ones we have at work:
No CD of floppy
Terrible to use in 'laptop' mode with keyboard
Very slow, only 1g processor.

its for a school so they would be used more than corporate eg drawing, notes etc + its a bit of a case or keeping up with the jonses too to be honest! looked at the compaq but it only has 10" screen which put me off straight away

That's exactly the same reason our company has wasted £20k+ on buying them for the senior management. For drawing and stuff, it's far better to go for a graphics tablet and a normal pc.

if its for a school then i would look at the RM tablets, they are designed with pupils in mind and are a bit sturdier. (i am not generally an RM fan but have used these in education a lot and they are good)
