FG-bro is having problems file sharing and printer sharing between an Win2K PC and an XP Home laptop.

Here's the setup...

Lynksys 54G Wireless router.
Lynksys WiFi cards in both PC and laptop.

Both machines can access the router and the internet. However, neither device can ping the other likewise network browsing doesn't work.

Is it a limitation of XP Home?

BTW we have successfully implemented this type of network using Lynksys/Belkin and NetGear kit. The difference being XP Pro vs. XP Home.

TIA

FG

Probably the Windows XP firewall is enabled.

I managed to link up my work laptop (running Win2K) to my home PC (running XP Home). I had to set up a separate login account on the laptop though - logging on to the "local machine", otherwise the laptop couldn't see past my office windows domain. Not sure if any of this helps!

If pings don't work then its gotta be a firewall issue.

Make sure both machines can ping the router, then make sure they can ping each other.

Then look to you NetBIOS & Workgroup settings.
