Watching Sky through the PC

Old man buy a new PC system witha 19" TFT monitor and advent tower , so i suggested instead of buying another TV he could watch SKY through the computer since the PC has a TV card .
Now the PC world monkey told me that we needed a an extra box which we duly bought so , I tried to hook up the system last nite { i don't have the PC as of yet } with sky box hooking direct in to the box thing then to the monitor and lo and behold nothing zip zilch can through
Question is , does the PC have to connected in to the loop or am i doing something very daft

If you've got a TV card, you can watch it through that. Just plug that into the SKY box instead of the TV.

No more boxes needed.
