Had a phone call from my fifteen year old son saying somebody called "Gangster", (claiming to be from America )has hacked into his MSN account, and is threatening to sign him up to all kinds of expensive porn accounts unless he sends him 50 dollars by paypal..

Of course he has told him to off..., but is there anything he can do, other than close that account and password down and reopen another one??.....

Thanks in anticipation....

Inform MSN straight away, change password, and mail the FBI.

Personally, I'd have asked "Gangster" to come and collect his 50 dollars in person......

Sounds like some sort of 419 type scam. Copy anything necessary out of the inbox first, back up any e-mail addresses you need... and then have a bit of fun. Only if it can't be traced physically back to you of course!

Get the password changed and take out a fresh account as a precaution.

There was a password hack for MSN, but I think it was only in existence for about a day once the vulnerability became public.

Oh, and get the PC over to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com apply every critical update. Repeat until none are left to apply (each time you update, fresh updates become available until you are up to date.)

DO NOT update any drivers with Microsoft ones!!!

sounds like a weak try at a bad scam, should email the t****r & tell him to suck the $50 out of your A**e, theres no way he can sign you up for anything without your details & where is he going to get them from??

The other thing is - how is he contacting him if he can't access his email?
