HI,

Have just tried to configure my Windows Fax console, but it does not detect any modems, and there are no options for using an ADSL router instead!

Is there a way around this, or is Windows still behind the times?

You trying to send a fax over IP? I would have thought that normally when you send a fax from windows it would use the modem to dial the destination fax, rather than using your internet connection. Or am I behind the times here?

Correct,

An ADSL modem does not use the same "frequency range" as an analogue 56k modem, so therefore, even if you were able to connect it to the fax machine at the other end, they would not be able to handshake, let alone have a conversation..

56k modems are incredibly cheap, so if you haven't already got one, it's nothing to pick one up and fit it..

..and you should have some sort of backup for your broadband anyway.

Although some of us recently on broadband already have such a device, unlike you spoon fed "broadband for as long as I can remember". Here, its called "How it used to be".

Isn't there a program called "Rightfax" that can be used over networks...? Perhaps that could be used over braodband...?

From what I've seen on their website, it's purely a fax server application.. therefore you will send your "fax" kinda like an email.. that will then be sent by your fax "server" as a normal fax..

like I say, a simple 56k modem and windows fax will do the job, alternatively, if you have a couple of PC's, something like Software602 lansuite will be a mail server, proxy, ldap address book, fax server etc etc etc.. for free for up to 5 users..

Thank you very much for the great info guys , I was gonna send a fax to TVR Power, but used email instead.
I gave away my US Robotics serial modem when I got broadband, but then I remembered, my HP 2210 all in one has a fax on that, and that's connected to the phone line!, I am a donut!!
