I'm helping my mother out with a charity she works with. Basically i'm updating their website but she really wants it to be in the first page of search results in Google.

Is there a way to notify Google or a way to get it up the listings?

Much appreciated,

Rico

I have found that using the submit form usually results in a 4 - 8 week delay in getting listed, and doesn't guarantee you a high listing.

You might do better submitting the site to The open directory project - google uses this to update their listings.

Google (in my experience) positions your site in the results primarily based on incoming links.

For example, for Pistonheads to be listed high on a search for "car site", it's better for the link to say

This is a good car site

rather than

For a good car site click here

The best advice I have is to ensure that the site has lots of keyword rich content, and that you get as many people to link in to the site using the search terms you require.

I hope this helps - search engine optimisation is a massive business and ultimately it can require a lot of time and effort to get the result you are looking for. But if you go into it with this in mind you should be ok.

Get lots of link referrals and don't use a million meta tags. Also use HTML or PHP and not database driven sites as these don't register with Google...

Spot the obvious mistake.
