If anything asks for bank details these days, it's a scam.

I know that Barclays give you a security certificate for accessing their online share dealing service.

Could be something to do with this.

Anyway, I should speak to your bank.

Never give out your bank details. Your bank will never ask for those details over the net. Get a good anti-virus and firewall like Norton. A package is about £60 but it's worth it. It costs about £15 to subscribe to the Virus Updates. Do it.

To get rid of the pop-up, if you have XP, do a System Restore and restore it to a date before you got the popup. Next go to the Net and download the FREE Lavasoft Ad-Aware. Run that and remove all the spyware that is lurking on your computer.

Good advice from LuS1fer. However, if you're even too tight to do that, you can protect your PC for free. Download the following:

Sygate Personal Firewall
Avast Anti Virus

Both are free for personal use.

In addition to the excellent Adaware, I would get hold of Spybot and also download the trial version of Webroot's Spy Sweeper.

Spy Sweeper is the best I've come across and picks up things missed by Spybot and Adaware. The trial version allows you to download the latest signature files and do a full sweep of you machine, so you can be pretty sure that it is clean.
