In their infinate wisdom my Uni has decided to encrypt all incoming and outgoing e-mails with SSL.

Great, except they haven't bothered to get digital certificates for the e-mail servers so whenever I send/recieve it Outlook 2003 it hangs for a minute or so, before returning a warning that the SSL is self certified so is not trusted.

Is there any way I can get Outlook to disregard this as it's a real pain in the arse

If you can hit the server with a web browser, it will give you a chance to add the cert to your trusted store.

Or this might work (haven't tried it), it might give you the option to install.

View your certificates

In the main Microsoft Outlook window, on the Tools menu, click Options, and then click Security.
Click Settings.
Under Certificates and Algorithms, click Choose.
Click the certificate you want, and then click View Certificate.

can you not just add the server to your trusted list in IE?

That option isn't there.

How do you mean trusted list?
