buying secondhand laptop

hiya all,

I'm buying a secondhand laptop of someone in the next few days.. does anyone have any advice as to what to check for?
My primary concerns are:
a) its infected (though it has symantec AV software installed
b) its stolen
c) its about to break
I have the sellers e-mail and mobile no and will be meeting them in person to check the laptop out and buy it..

Battery life - expensive to replace if like my last laptop they last 2 mins after charging for 6 hours!
