Hypothetically, what's the best software for downloading music??
I'm, ermmm, doing an essay on it

Neither myself nor pistonheads.com encourage, nor condone the illegal distribution of music.

Is the language barrier hard to overcome?
Luckily, just before I got out my old 'Russian for dummies' I noticed the 'English' translation button in the top left hand corner
It's a very easy site to use and they make it very easy for you to download a lot for very little. Helps if you download the AllofMP3 explorer as well which will automatically pull down any files you've ordered.

I use Grockster, alot of rubbish but occasionally if you put in a song name , you don't get porn files returned in the search. I hate it when this happens
can I have some more info please?
www.grockster.com
Beware it will try and install all sorts of adware though!
I was recommended to try bearshare, and it appears to be bloody marvellous..
www.bearshare.com I think... google should turn it up

Well the only scary entries on this months cc statement are those put there by my girlfriend and the $5 I spent on downloads is there (complete with translation from rubles!). The site was recommended by a friend who'd been using it trouble free for a while too.

Is it legal to download music from site AllOFMP3.com?

Now where did I leave that old Russian passport....

DC++ is a file sharing client that's free to download and easy to setup. There are many hubs that handle search results and facilitate chat, all the file transfers are made between clients.
There is a lot of control you can exercise on which files you share and with whom. Most hubs require at least 1 gig of shared files, eg bin, img, iso files etc and most if not all hubs prohibit sharing of rubbish ie installed apps, files. You can disconnect any individual from your queue or just close that particular hub connection.
I've been using it for 3 years and recently tried emule for a week, it was garbage, slow incomings sometimes rarely reaching 20K but usually around 1-5K with a lot of uploads slowing everything down on a 2m pipe.
If you're not feeling altruistic it's possible to create a large share of stuff no-one really wants anymore to allow you to access the better hubs like >>20Gb share but this really goes against the ethos of DC++.
There's rarely anything I can't find, I just took a 'eval copy' of all 3 doom3 CDs at 100-150Kish. My most popular uploads at the moment are Splinter Cell 2 and Fahrenheit 911.

Well, I have over 40Gb of my own, Legally aquired Music (No, I don't want to even consider how much money they have cost or mow much time uploading them took), not to mention videos i've downloaded off sleepy fish etc. so I should be able to get on to the serious Hubs no probs, without going against the "unwritten code".
Thanks for the help.
