Norton Symantec problems

Anyone had a recent problem with Symantec downloads?
A few weeks ago, there was a problem with an update which prevented access to the Web unless the firewall was switched off. A few downloads later, this appeared to be resolved but this very morn following another download yesterday, I was unable to on -line as Norton was stopping me.
Turning off the firewall didn't cure it and neither did disabling the AV software.
I eventually removed Norton anti-virus from my PC and now all is well again with a trial version of AVG 7 Professional installed.
Any thoughts folks?
