Anyone got any thoughts or possible leads to follow..? A colleague here asked if its feasible to digitally archive the feeds from LOADS (and I mean loads) of video cameras (CCTV style), plus to store years worth of the media from ALL of the cameras.
I've only ever tinkered with MSEncoder with a single live camera which was fine - it can archive a live stream to a wmv; I've got no idea about taking it any further though to this sort of scale.

thanks all
Ed

I suspect the cost of disk drives to archive all this data would be staggering!

However I'm sure it's possible - we have a 4 camera cctv system here that can archive live feeds, but they use so much disk space it's not worth it.

I can't remember where it came from but a quick search of google should get you some leads.

Hi Dobbo,

What system are you using ?? I'm currently looking at the x-vision software with a 4 input 15FPS card.....

I believe we have a data camera cctv system at work. The videos are very low bandwidth due to the poor quality.
the recent videos are stored on a harddisk(s) then archived off to the main tape backup system after a week or so.

My last workplace had an ADT system installed, 4 small B&W cameras (not brilliant quality, low frame rate), a VCR-sized box with IIRC 4 years worth of continuous streaming storage capacity.

Cost about £20k all-in I think.
