Does anyone know how much a CCTV system costs that can be networked to view over the internet? Reasonably good kit, full colour etc.

Can this be linked into a security system that can record movement out of hours, and also detect staff coming and going through a clocking in system?

Say 5 or 6 cameras, in and outside a building. To both make sure staff are working and security reasons.

Self install?

Does anyone use such system themselves with good results?

Can it reduce insurance premiums?

Thanks.

Sounds like you need a network camera with motion detection. I've used this before, Earthcam are a pretty good one stop shop for this kind of stuff, though I used it in the US so I don't know who would be best to go through in the UK.

The technology exists and is pretty reasonable price-wise. No need for a main server on-site normally since the cameras can stream to a web page. The best feature is the notification, you can set it up to say tell you if someone accesses the building between X PM and X AM.

The clocking system, do you mean motion detection or a hardwired system when you get a picture and timestamp of everyone who clocks in or out? The latter is trickier.

You can self install, it's easy. With Earthcam you get their nice GUI panel for doing all the additional features.

As for insurance, you need to check with your insurance company. Some insist on professional install while others won't allow computer CCTV as a security measure (ease of tampering, etc).
